Hello. My name is Ariel Mattive. I am a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. My major is studio art with an emphasis, in illustration. I’m starting out, so I have no idea, where I’m headed. I would love to continue with mixed media collage. There is something to be said, about art consisting of found objects. I really enjoy gathering materials for collages, such as magazine and internet images, fabrics, costume jewelry, wallpaper samples, etc. I feel as though, I’m building my subject matter, for the collage and it’s quite rewarding.
The type of collage I like, is combining my drawing skills and using mixed media. However, I enjoy making cards, illustrating graphite drawings, recycling found objects, and designing dolls, on paper. I have quite a few inspirations. My main one being dolls. I have always loved them and to this day, I can’t figure out the reason. I guess one could be, that they’re cute, and some of them, portray glamour, with their wardrobes and accessories. Ideally, I would like to be a doll designer.
Big eyed child/girl prints of the 1960s and 1970s, also inspire me and I love the vintage look. Famous movie stars, singers, and controversial figures, serve as inspiration, as well. I like incorporating song lyrics into drawings, too.
I hope one day, to find my way into the art world and share my voice. My hobbies include doll collecting and researching, thrift store shopping, singing (sometimes professionally), and of course, my art.
I started this blog, back in the Fall of 2011, for my Illustration Independent Study course, in college. At the time, I thought this would be a great way, for me to post my artwork, from both the past and the present, and to discuss my inspirations, for each piece. It’s not quite as professional, as I would like it to be, but I still think it’s a good start, in getting my art out there. At some point, I would like to have a good website for my work, as well. So, I hope all of you out there, are enjoying my entries and artwork. Check back or visit, as often as you like! Also, feel free to comment or give advice. But be nice! By this, I mean give good constructive criticism.
Thanks to those, who are following this blog and taking an interest.
